Power laws and phase transitions in heterogenous car following with reaction times

چکیده
We study the effect of reaction times on kinetics relaxation to stationary states and congestion transitions in heterogeneous traffic using simulations Newell's model a ring. Heterogeneity is modeled as quenched disorders parameters time drivers. observed that at low densities, state from homogeneous initial governed by same power laws derived E. Ben-Naim et al., Kinetics clustering flow, Phys. Rev. E 50, 822 (1994). The state, single giant platoon vehicles with slowest vehicle being leader platoon. formation spontaneous jams inside which move upstream stop-go waves dissipate its tail. transition happens when head starts interacting tail, stable form, circulate ring without dissipating. system behaves differently point approached above than it does below. When density below, gap distribution behind has double peak fat-tailed but bounded support thus maximum variance tend size-independent values. above, becomes law and, consequently, gaps diverge law, thereby creating discontinuity transition. Thus, we observe phase unusual kind both are density. These features vanish absence time, i.e., react instantaneously perturbation ahead (e.g., automated driving). Overall, conclude nonzero drivers significantly change behavior free flow while doesn't alter state.

Phase Transitions in Nonequilibrium Steady States and Power Laws and Scaling Functions of Surface Growth Processes
Three models of surface growth processes in nonequilibrium steady state (NESS): Edwards–Wilkinson Model, Mullins–Herring Model and Kardar–Parisi–Zhang Model, are presented. Power laws, universality of non-equilibrium distributions, and scaling functions are discussed in details together with some experiment results.
متن کاملA theory of power laws in human reaction times: insights from an information-processing approach
Human reaction time (RT) can be defined as the time elapsed from stimulus presentation until a reaction/response occurs (e.g., manual, verbal, saccadic, etc.). RT has been a fundamental measure of the sensory-motor latency at suprathreshold conditions for more than a century and is one of the hallmarks of human performance in everyday tasks (Luce, 1986; Meyer et al., 1988). Some examples are th...
متن کاملUsing the Reaction Delay as the Driver Effects in the Development of Car-Following Models
Car-following models, as the most popular microscopic traffic flow modeling, is increasingly being used by transportation experts to evaluate new Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications. A number of factors including individual differences of age, gender, and risk-taking behavior, have been found to influence car-following behavior. This paper presents a novel idea to calculate ...
متن کاملPower laws reveal phase transitions in landscape controls of fire regimes.
Understanding the environmental controls on historical wildfires, and how they changed across spatial scales, is difficult because there are no surviving explicit records of either weather or vegetation (fuels). Here we show how power laws associated with fire-event time series arise in limited domains of parameters that represent critical transitions in the controls on landscape fire. Comparis...
